About the Artist

Brenda Drake is a Charleston, SC and Washington DC area based artist whose paintings and mixed media work have a strong expressionist style. Her use of vivid veils of color create lush, textural layers. Ms. Drake spent fifteen years in Manhattan, NY working in commercial design whee she traveled the world researching color, fabric and fashion trends. This exposure to many cultures informs her artistic view. She is especially inspired by the patinas built up over time in the architecture, furnishings, and art of the orient and other ancient, Eastern Cultures.

Ms. Drake makes her primary residence in Charleston where the beauty of the Lowcountry landscape and culture adds to her inspiration. Throughout her artistic career Ms. Drake has been active in promoting and fundraising in the arts. She was on The Board of Directors of the Kansas City Artists Coalition and organization of over four hundred artists. She was also on the The Board of Directors of the Great Falls, VA Artists Association. Ms. Drake created and chaired the first fundraising galas for each organization, leading to substantial funding for each organization. She was also involved in organizing annual studio tours, resulting in greater exposure and increased sales for the artists.

Ms. Drake is in the permanent collection of numerous individual and corporate collections. She has also completed numerous commissions for individual homes and public buildings.
